Masdar
Conceived, led and funded by Abu Dhabi, Masdar (which means "the source" in Arabic) is a global cooperative platform for open engagement in the search for solutions in energy security, climate change and the development of human expertise in sustainability. The centerpiece of the Masdar Inititative, Masdar City, is already under construction. When completed, it will be the first city in the world to be powered entirely by renewable energy. With the cooperation of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the Initiative has also founded the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology - a graduate level, research-oriented university focused on alternative energy, sustainability, and the environment.
